Harvey Phillips Legacy CD

Post by brianf »

I just received the latest ITEA Journal that includes the Harvey Phillips Legacy CD - WOW! Wait until you you all get this!

There is a lot of styles - jazz, legit, modern, baroque and a few friends speaking. The recording has Gunther Schuller's Capricio for Tuba and small orchestra. The journal even has the solo part!

I know this is a project that has been in the works for quite a while. During my trips to the TubaRanch, I would hear much of this music. Their problem was that there was so much great material that chosing the final cuts was difficult. My hat's off to Skip Gray, G.R. Davis and the Phillips' - Tom, Carol and Harvey!

Bravo!!

I was out at the Tubaranch for about 5-6 months in 1975. If memory serves me correctly, Harvey was preparing to record the Schuller, Peasley, and Baker pieces. I also heard him play them in Carnegie Hall. This cd exemplifies what a great tubist and musician Harvey was when he was playing. I'm looking forward to telling him such at Tubachristmas. All tubists should hear this cd!
