Hello all,
Living in Southern California I was wondering, are there any adverse effects of leaving my tuba in the back of a closed SUV when it's hot outside???

The only effect I could see is someone running off with it. Here at school we had two people have the same thing happen. And one other guy who was in such a hurry he just left the horn in the parking lot. It sat for atleast an hour before he realized it wasnt with him. Lucky for him no one touched it.

Not only will the valves dry out, but also the slides. And unless it's all made out of the same metal, it'll expand at different rates, including the solder. (There's another thread about expansion rates and having the valves stop moving because of it for certain kinds) Plus, having the horn get bigger will make it play flat.

Actually, the heat affects the air inside the tuba more than the metal: heat = less dense air = higher velocity = the horn will actually play sharp.windshieldbug wrote:Not only will the valves dry out, but also the slides.
