I once played the Tomasi "To Be or not to Be" with pipe organ instead of trombones. The effect was awesome. It'd probably still be better with 3 very good trombone players, however.

When I was in college, I performed in a 20th Century chamber ensemble. I played some music that was written for percussion and tuba. It was all modern in composition style but still fairly melodic and tonal. I will list a few that I remember:
William Penn - Capriccio for Tuba. Penn also wrote some solo pieces
Walter Hartley - Concerto for Tuba and Percussion
Arthur Franckenpohl Concerto for Tuba and String Orchestra
Torbjorn Lundquvist - Landscape for Tuba and String Quartet
Mark Alan Taggart - Athletic Conveyance a duet for tuba and percussion
John Wyre - Maruba for tuba and Marimba
and for something very odd you can check out
Bo Nilsson - Bass for solo tuba and percussion. It features the percussion more as an accompaniment and requires some prerecorded tuba parts. It is very strange if you are not used to these types of compositions.

Please note, I have not performed most of these but I have worked on most and listened to all of them. I consider them to be good works worth checking out. If you like I can point you to recordings of most of these pieces, just drop me a PM if you like.

My wife and I performed Galgenlieder for soprano and tuba by Jan Koetsier, thanks to the suggestion (and translations) from Sean Greene.

Also, on the newest ITEA Legacy Series CD is a recording by Harvey Phillips of a movement from David Baker's Sonata for Tuba & String Quartet.

Beethoven Duos, originally for bassoon and clarinet but also out there for violin and cello. I've done these with me playing the cello part with flute, oboe, clarinet and violin and I have done them playing the vioin part with cello , bassoon and double bass. Very versatile and great music.
