Copland CDs

Post by bort »

I'm looking for recommdations on CDs of Aaron Copland, particularly including Appalachian Spring, Rodeo, and Billy the Kid. I have a few already, my favorite being Michael Tilson Thomas/San Francisco Symphony. Just looking to hear other interpretations of those works. What are other "good ones"?

FUNNYTHING....I'm actually listening to Appalachian Spring just now. Most of my recording of Copland's stuff are on vinyl (check-out the Columbia recordings from the 70's), but the one I am listening to now is on a CD by the Atlanta Symphony w/ Robert Spano (Telarc CD-80596). Very nice collection which I bought because of the Jennifer Higdon composition "blue cathedral". The reading of App'Spring is just ok, but My absolute favorite CD version is by the Minnesota Orch w/ Eiji Oue (Reference recordings RR-93CD)......which also has a GREAT reading of Copland's "3rd Symphony" as well as "Fanfare for the Common Man". You just gotta have this recording IMO!
beta 14??..........OK!

Never buy from a record store that won't let you sample what they sell.
