Up early (0430 pst) making ready to do the kings business on duty today. Others will be cooking for me, and hopefully, the tryptophan (sp) will last for most of my shift, keeping most people from getting too cranky with one another.
Here is hoping that all who were traveling made it safely to their destinations, and that families together for the holidays can enjoy their time together.

Re: Update Update
I recently got back home after driving all day. Nothing like spending two full days driving round trip on my limited vacation time (with three very impatient kids in back) just to spend three days with in-laws who genuinely detest me. At least I got to eat some pretty good BBQ on the way home today (O.B.'s) and some great catfish and fixin's down there yesterday (anyone ever hear of Ray's Mill Pond???)
The worst part of it was that I dislocated my left shoulder the morning of the first day there. And yes, my right hand is still broken and in a cast (hence the overuse of the left.) So, I was practically helpless most of the time, and got accused of milking it and trying to get out of responsibility (never mind that I did drive there, and I just drove back home while the spouse watched movies on her laptop or listened to her ipod the whole time.)
The good news is that my left shoulder is beginning to cooperate again today and should be largely better in time for me to go back to work in my cubicle-turned-closet on Monday
And, I'm thinking about getting an F tuba again...

Re: Update Update
If you want a Kelly in Red Hot color, they got 'em on sale for $15 now. Any size.
I see the stainless Kellyberg price is $118. Shipping is kind of high.

Re: Update Update
I got my cast off my right hand this afternoon; new X-Rays showed that the hairline fracture has healed up. Now, it is just a matter of regaining full flexibility in the fingers of that hand, due to being immobilized.
The first thing I did when I arrived home was spend about 15 minutes on the bass trombone, as I have been unable to hold a slide with the cast on and I have a concert playing Beethoven next week. (Have been buzzing, though.) Then I spent about a half hour in a hot shower. I still can't get 100% of the smell out of my right hand.

Update:
One of the Google ads says "Dealer Trades Accepted".
Does that mean you can trade your crack dealer in for something useful?

Re: Update Update
Update: We switched from fairly thick 2 ply cushy toilet paper (Charmin, Cottonelle, Northern, etc) to Scott single ply (see "Calling all Plumbers!!!!!" thread) for the last 2 months. We've noticed a few welcome changes.
1. Everything flushes the first time. [yippy!!!!]
2. Scott puts a LOT of paper on the rolls. So we are making less TP purchases. More money to spend on mouthpieces.
Hopefully our septic tank is a whole lot happier now!

UPDATE:
If there are other posts similar to TubaTodd's, I may have to find another news source. Let's see.....The New York Times. Wait! That's the same thing. I guess I'll have to give this some serious thought. Time to go to the "thinking room."

Update:
Have my first concert as the new music teacher tomorrow night and then the first home basketball game on Saturday with the pep band. I figure I'll be able to walk into the school on Monday morning and know whether or not I have a job next fall

UPDATE
Just received the results for my school's Honors Recital auditions from earlier this evening, and I'm in it as well as another fellow tuba major.
Simultaneously, a Carnegie Hall performance competition happened where one vocalist and one instrumentalist gets to perform the same solo in tonight's auditions in Carnegie Hall when the concert choir goes there to perform a concert of their own. There will also be a mass choir that will perform Mozart's Mass in C Major, K. 317, "Coronation", and Edwin Penhorwood's An American Requiem (select movements).
I won the instrumentalist spot! I will be performing the second movement of the Gregson Concerto.
Life is good!

Re: Update Update
It was in the 20s this morning, so I started the car to let it warm up. Apparently, there is this anti-theft feature that automatically locks the doors after some amount of time ... with the keys inside. After some searching in the house, I found the spare.

Re: Update Update
Just finsined a particularly gratifying gig at a local mall, of all places. Quintet played well, exceptional at times, the patrons stopped and listened appreciatively and the acoustics were amazing. Ceramic floor, plaster walls, 3 story oval rotunda above us. We could hear each other think!
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Re: Update Update
Made it through the first concert and the first basketball game as the new band/choir teacher at my small school. I should be able to walk in on Monday and know whether or not I will have a job there next fall. The bands played very well and the choirs did a good job in spite of me being their teacher.

Re: Update Update
2012 had it all wrong. So did George Romero. The "end of the world as we know it" will happen because of a reemergence of dinosaurs. How do I know this? Last night, when I was unloading my tuba from the van, my two and a half year old was still in his car seat. He started yelling "Get me out, dinosaurs coming!" After unbuckling him, he yelled "Get in house - dinosaurs here soon!"
Perhaps he knows something we don't.
