An excellent guide for Orchestral Recordings is
Orchestral Recordings for Low Brass Players by Gerald Sloan. The author surveyed almost 100 musicians for recommended recordings, tallied the results, and annotated each one with pretty specific details. I used the most frequently cited ones as a good start for my orchestral library and was not dissapointed at all. It's only disadvantage is that the results are about ten years old........so if you're out the Mr. Sloan come out with a second edition! It's available through encore music www.encoremupb.com
Good luck
