From descriptions in the press one might have believed that the bridge to nowhere would have been a long one, but that isn’t really so:

Sitka is an interesting comparisson, as even the runway is on sort of a damm or causeway:

New York has airfields on Long Island, Copenhagen has its airfield on the island of Amager. The Pacific island of Mangareva has its airstrip on the surrounding atoll, which is only accessible by ferry.

PS: As for the not so reliable sellers of Russian gold, I have te problem close to my mouth. I recently broke a molar. No pains at all, but the only longterm rescue is a crown. I have had some of these installed already, but no later than 2004. Since then the dentists are obliged to offer Chinese made crowns backed by a Danish guanrantee. The catch is, that not even the Danish laboratory is able to issue a true guarantee, as it is possible to cheat with the gold alloy inside the ceramic surface. Hence the guarantee is limited to 5 years. But I plan to use my crowns quite a bit longer, and Danish crowns traditionally last for a lifetime. My oldest already is close to 20 years old. I am not out after pure gold, as that is far too soft. But the alloy shall consist of what the official formula says.

Dentists are expensive in Denmark, also because there is little insurance covering. I am optimally insured and I get about 20% refunded on a crown. There has been some dental tourism to countries that shall be unnamed here. If tings go wrong there then we often talk disaster.

It may be the dentists’ own organisation obliging them to tell abot the Chinese alternative. Very few dentists make their own crowns in-house, most contract with a dental lab. Some labs then subcontract in China, and these labs are the ones issuing the guarantee on the Chinese work and material. But it is possible for the Chinese to cheat on the Danish labs, and I don’t want to take that risk.

I know, lets go on vacation and buy some valuable jewelry from a vendor that we have never met before, and will never see again, and whose trustworthiness is unknown to us, and who will be unavailable to resize the ring, or to resolve any issues, and who will charge us a premium for buying in a tourist location. Yeah, that's the ticket."
It works for the Ponte Vecchio.
