Hello!
Although student and tuba and various freelance orchestras, which puts the bread on my table is to be a paramedic in the Brazilian Army. Last year when I went to the mission in Haiti, I needed a small F tuba and did not think a very cheap here in Brazil. I bought a tuba in Eb kaisr Korchendorfer with 4 valves and turned it into a hybrid F with 5 valves precisely because I was preparing the 1st movement of VW. It worked very well and did not leave expensive, another option I had was to put a trigger on the 4th valve!
Big hug, I have helped!

First, my apologies for ranting on tubeast, I think I read too much into his posting.
To the OP, I'd suggest experimenting and playing what is reasonably possible on the 4-valve Cerveny F, and if you decide that you like this instrument enough, it is possible to order the necessary parts from Amati/Cerveny to make it a 5-valve instrument that even looks factory-original. I have an older Cerveny compact kaiser CC here that I'm converting to a 5-valve, using factory-original parts from Cerveny. The Cerveny folks are quite friendly and accomodating, in my experience.

Re: New to F tuba land, I have a question
Frankly, I agree with Lee's first post. We need to be civil with each other, especially with younger or those new to this net. It's easy to get caught up in the friendly ribbing among the regulars and forget that not everyone understands this and could be offended. I was interested in this question because I am struggling with a low E on a 4 valve non-compensating Eb. There just isn't a valve combination for that either.
Some may not believe an Eb is a real horn either, but Lee knows my horn is capable of matching or exceeding most any other horn around. Improving my ability to play the horn up to it's potential is my challenge in life.

Try 3, 23, or possibly even 13.

Re: New to F tuba land, I have a question
I was stuck playing one of the tall Amatis, similar to the Cerveny, for several months in a professional setting. The f sharp came up more than once. Oddly, 1 and 2 responded loud and in tune. Should be 2 and 3, which also works but with less resonance. If you buzz loud and conciously on the pitch it will work! John
