Kudos to the Conn 2J... it's phenomenal too!

Try oneofthe Kanstul 902 Serries. They have a 4 vavle and a 4v + 1 piston model, both in C. 16" bell. I love mine as it is a great americian made horn.

Re: Small CC Tubas
I play a Getzen G50 and with my experience the PT606 plays very similar. I would say that the PT606 plays a little easier in the middle and higher ranges. To me it felt smaller but still had some power behind it when needed. The Kanstul 902 also plays very similar. I would not recommend a ceverny piggy personally. I've never played on one that has ever left me "wowed". Although I know people who love them though so you might just have to try it

The "small CC" market is interesting, because a lot of people skip over small CC's and go straight for large F's.

Plenty on the Rudy 3/4 so far, but no mention of the Mirafone 185. Aren't they pretty close in size to one another? 185s are kind of hard to find these days, but then Rudy 3/4s aren't exactly crawling out of the woodwork either. I've played both - maybe the one was unusually good and the other unusually bad, but I'd have taken the 185 any day.
Gnagey CC, VMI Neptune 4098 CC, Mirafone 184-5U CC and 56 Bb, Besson 983 EEb and euphonium, King marching baritone, Alexander 163 BBb, Conn 71H/112H bass trombone, Olds Recording tenor trombone.

Everything about the 185 looks promising... I've just never had a chance to try one (and no one I've met has either). Love to, though!

+1 on bigger sound. Obviously I preferred my 184 or I wouldn't have kept it for 38 years (and counting). But Bruce's 185 is plenty fine, notwithstanding.Northernlb wrote:I restored a 185 and thought was pretty different from my 184. The 185 felt longer and thinner and the 184 felt smaller. Thought the bigger sound came from the 184.

Speaking of Small CCs... I just got the Canadian Brass Newsletter, and it appears Conn-Selmer has aquired and reconditioned a 3J for Chuck. I'm almost certain that means it will never be in production.

Re: Small CC Tubas
After finally playing one for the first time, I must vote for the Rudy 3/4CC.
Great sound but, too bad: it was not for sale ...
Anyone selling one of these currently?
