Re: Question on instruments
A fully refurbed Holton 345 BBb, and someone to build a custom Eb made along the same lines, with oversized bows and bell and a 5th valve. And a roadie to carry the Holton around for me.

Re: Question on instruments
Holtons and Martins were in the $2000 range in the late 60's--more than rotary tubas.Bob Kolada wrote:Front action American BAT's. I don't know what Martins and Holtons cost when new but I'd like to think they'd be favorably priced today. Or at least had more made when they were made, making more available.
Several one-offs- like big bore front action euphs, Eb contrabones,...
In the case of Holtons, they were poorly made and vary in quality from world-class to is-that-a-western-diatonic-scale? Often, the problems can be mitigated to some extent by remanufacturing them, often at a cost (even in real dollars) more than they cost new.
My suspicion is that a Holton CC-345, made now, would be priced right in the middle of the currently available European-made instruments of similar design.

Re: Question on instruments
I have a R. Stewart 4 valve Eb OTS - fun to look at, a bit awkward to actually use. It sounds great but with the bell so far away it is tricky to hear yourself. I also have had some close calls when marching in formation!brassbow wrote:A minty 1860 over the shoulder Eb DROOOOOLLLLL![]()
