Ron Boerger originally ran the C-M group and is still somewhat involved. Go here for the discussion group:

I think you can read without registering. To post... you'll need to ask for membership to join the group.

Joe... I run into this type of stuff in all six or seven groups I play with. The tuba row (usually almost in back in front of the percussion) seems to always be a target for stupidity by others. Either the percussion folks 'ring' the next to back row so entry by the tubas is almost impossible. or.... the morons in the altohorn/tenorhorn/baritone/euphonium row (in brass band) think they have to charge through the 'tuba forest' in order to clamber to their seats.

I understand the need for compact seating for performances but tubas sitting elbow to elbow in a large rehearsal hall is just plain stupid!

I tried to read this group but you can't do so without joining. I've signed up and am awating approval. It was easier to get a background check for my handgun ....

Keeps out the 'riff-raff'. Sort of like the great job Schleppie does on TubeNet.

At least glance to see if the director is looking your way when he stops before you turn your head to start talking to your neighbor.

I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.

Another problem with the incessant crowding that the percussion inflict on the tubas is getting to my case after the rehearsal, first to open it and then to return tuba in hand. My solution has been to park my Winter case behind my chair. This ALMOST forces them to back off and give people room to pass. Since nobody is near the xylophones lined up right behind us at rehearsal's end, I just push them back into the vast space behind them and voila I can access my case right there.

Here are some personal pet peeves. I am warming up to play music, not practicing. My warm up works for me and is a bit long please understand that every one is different.
I take rehersal seriously, Please do not tell me I am playing to loud as I warm up, because it is interfering with your before band talking. You want to talk, do it after rehersal.
Yes I sometimes play upper brass ( was playing eb cornet in a BB) when I play high it is not to show off, the music is written that high.
Yes I play brass , we're loud instruments. If you have a headache STAY HOME.
And as a brass player Blastissmo is NOT musical. Blend.
Check your egos at the door. If you were that good you would not be in an amature/volunteer group
Conn 2j Eb tuba,
Eb SARV bugle by R. Stewart,
Continental Eb/F alto,
Olds ambassador baritone,
Zeus Bb cornet,
Hawks and son 1911 eb cornet,
Holton colligiate trumpet,
King G/F 1930's field trumpet
Yes i play them all!!!!!!!!

Yes...that's the C-M group I referred to in my original post. I've learned a tremendous amount from folks in that group, as I have here. In both groups I've had a few laughs as well.

After reviewing the responses here, and in the C-M group, I have what I think is good idea of group behavior norms. If I recommend that a list of common courtesies or rules be adopted, I'll use much of what I've read to compile such a list. However, after some thought, I don't think that will be necessary. For now, I may just occasionally make a comment about things that may be irritating to others.

Example: At one time I suspected that someone may have "shared" the group's contact list for marketing purposes because I suddenly received snail mail that didn't fit with my profile of activities. I could have been way off on this, but I did mention it during my regular announcements...just in case.

I'm extremely thankful to the Universe and my creator that I never experienced what some of you have. Pardon my brag, but my group is quite considerate and I've decided that an official list of rules and courtesies may not be necessary.

Thank you again tubenet buddies. :D
