If he reposts it, I'll ask for a photo of the tuba with the front page of today's newspaper. Ransom-style. :)

I hope the guy is legit, though I seriously doubt it. Scammers often won't waste time replying, even with insults. They just look for easier targets. If he IS legit... what a jerk!

Is there any legitimate reason you wouldn't want somebody to pay cash (save on paypal fees) and pick up (save hassle of shipping)? I can see not wanting to give someone your home address, but why not meet in a busy parking lot somewhere? I'm honestly curious, as I've been trying to sell a tuba as local pickup only for about a month and I'm wondering if it would be better to ship it. Shipping just seems like such a hassle (and risk, with a tuba) that I can't fathom a seller not allowing local pickup.

Too much risk. Meeting a stranger (even a well-intentioned one) with thousands of dollars in cash is an extremely uncomfortable scenario for most people. Heck, just holding that much cash at once is uncomfortable, too much potential for trouble, even external to the people involved in the tuba deal. What if you got robbed 5 minutes after the sale? You have no money and no tuba.

And for those people "meet me in a parking lot" isn't going to make them feel better. :)

Besides the safety concerns about meeting someone locally, (Especially in larger cities) sometimes it is just simpler to have UPS (et al.) come to your door and pick up the packed tuba and send it away.

I think you have an extremely thorough interpretation of "ya."

Better yet, ask questions that aren't non yes/no questions to force more information out of the guy. Even lie a bit and figure out something about his location:

Hey, I'm in Tulsa this weekend and staying near the ____. What time could you come and meet me with the tuba? Is cash okay, do you want to be paid in $1 bills or quarters? etc.

Last update from me:

He came back with a second chance offer of 2k on the horn. I took the previous poster's advice and asked him to post a new picture with a time date stamp or a newspaper AND a clear full shot of the engraving, and that if he did I would give him 2500(calling his bluff).

"no you can go somewhere else and maybe get that stupid request but as you can see they took the negative feedback off and I'm sure that was a good reason don't you think and by the way both tubas sold so to late"
