Actually, I am pretty sure that is a King 1241, not a King 2341, you are playing (1st valve upper slide is fixed, 2nd valve slide is double looped, 22 inch bell), which is a good thing. Many, including myself, believe that the 1241 is a slightly better built and better sounding tuba than the 2341 model that replaced the 1241 in the mid 70s. (Although there is certainly nothing wrong about a 2341.)

You have a classic American 4/4 BBb tuba that will give you years of enjoyment. I've had my 1241 for 38 years, and I still get compliments on its tone and intonation.

Greetings... I'm from beautiful southern California. I've lurked around for the last couple years but this is my first post (as you can see).
Good to have you on board! Beautiful rare horn you have there. I think Schlep meant where are you in the photo since the thread is about - your horn + you together in the photo.

But you're covered because if Schlep looked hard enough he would have faintly made you out in the reflection on the bell by the flash!

Recently got this M&M TU 2000 and used it in a concert last Sunday--been wanting a big piston horn and had an eye on this for a while now. Puts out a big powerful sound and intonation overall is very good---had to get a bit to address intonation issues--cleared right up. Very responsive and fast quiet pistons--definitely a keeper!

Wow Jerry,
Thanks for the report on the 5/4 M&M TU2000,
I was always curious myself, I have a 2004 M&M 'Symphony' BBb,
which looks like a Alex copy.
But it just sits in the case, I play my Rudy 5/4 exclusively now. :tuba:

I agree, bort... The only thing I can imagine I was doing was re-adjusting the horn on the chair? My hand is usually on the top over the 1st valve slide.

Parts of me would feel squeezed, too, after early morning pole dancing on that green thing. And then they forced you to lean your back against the sharp edge of a cube. You must truly always be a professional musician!

The elephant does not look happy. Neither would I, if I were formally dressed and it was 95/95 out.

I guess I'll have to post some pictures too. Great thread!

This is a pic of me and my Hirsbrunner 392 4/4 CC (I'm not acquainted with the american model numbers) a couple of years ago, taken at home, before a concert on our constitution day.

Here's me playing a Besson 994 B-flat, in the Brucknerhaus in Linz, Austria, with the European Youth Brass Band, earlier this year.

Some years ago, with an older Besson 981 E-flat.

And finally, my nephew and I, earlier this year, me on a Courtois Bb-flat, and Felix plays my old 3 valve Boosey & Hawkes Regent E-flat.

I like the looks of that Courtois BBb horn a couple posts up. Do they still make tubas because on their site it doesnt show it. I'd love to get my hands on one of them someday. In the mean time... here is me with a Conn 20K not wanting to get my pic taken. Image

Courtois never made their compensating tubas themselves. They were made by Meinl-Weston. As I understand it, Courtois discontinued their tubas and euphoniums, when they acquired Besson.
