Re: Update Update
Horrible, horrible day for the OSU family. We lost an incredible womens basketball coach and his assistant, a rising star in the coaching world and an extremely nice young lady. Then the football game...I can't imagine how the players felt all day and I think it showed in their play. I think we all learned how trivial the game of football is here tonight versus the reality and fragile nature of life.
Add to that I hear now that the Westboro idiots are coming to rain on our memorial service Monday. It's just not good times here right now. Those of you who are so inclined please include the extended OSU family in your prayers this weekend. Thanks.

We have a jump start on winter. 4 inches of snow and the temps are at 0 and heading below that.
This has been your pre-winter weather update.

The plus side is we only have about 4-5 inches of snow on the ground.

Low 70's here with scattered showers.

Re: Update Update
It's raining in Newburgh, Indiana as I post. It's supposed to rain off and on for the next few days. But... I REALLY wish it would hold off for a week or so. I'm having a new metal roof put on the old homestead and they were supposed to start last Thursday. However... it was raining last Thursday. I was rather hoping it would be done before Thanksgiving weekend. sigh.bloke wrote:We're hanging on to fall by the skin of our teeth. Two nights ago, the low was about 25°, but highs expected in the 70's (even though rain) for at least the next three days. We need the rain. ....Rev Rob wrote:We have a jump start on winter. 4 inches of snow and the temps are at 0 and heading below that.

Re: Update Update
I just finished working 3 days and 20+ hours managing the building/hall for the Miss ND & Teen ND beauty pageant. I'm exhausted, my feet hurt, and my black suit is filthy from all the hairspray and make-up. I'm gonna grab some take out and go spend the evening with my girls at home.

Fiber makes me a happier camper. Winter is well on its way, with spitting snow, and now buckets of rain forecast. Horseradish is good, but what I'm really pining for is some sweet potato pie.
Todd, get ahold of the Patriot Guard motorcyclists. They will screen your event from the Westboro goobers.

Thanks. They were "on the ready" for today, but the Westboro loonies were "bought off" with 5 minutes of free radio air time. The memorial service went ahead with no unnecessary distractions today.bearphonium wrote:Todd, get ahold of the Patriot Guard motorcyclists. They will screen your event from the Westboro goobers.

Does a trip to the hardware store count as "shopping" on black Friday if you go to get a tube of "Flitz" to work on a horn project with?

Speaking of fiber - I had a chestnut, my first at the Christmas tree lighting in Fishtail. Do you eat just the inside or the whole thing. I ate the whole thing. When I eat sun flower kernels I eat the whole seed. I am an impatient eater - I don't like to play with my food, just eat it

You're supposed to peel the outer shell (husk) off and eat the inside. A little chestnut goes a long way!Rev Rob wrote:Speaking of fiber - I had a chestnut, my first at the Christmas tree lighting in Fishtail. Do you eat just the inside or the whole thing. BTW... if you ever try roasting them yourself, be sure to make a couple of slits in the husk first. Otherwise, they will explode!

Re: Update Update
I've never really gotten into sunflower seeds either, and also eat the whole thing sometimes. I do that with peanuts sometimes, too. I would not recommend it with pistachios though.

I think there is an exception to this rule. That is when the trumpet player was given the $20,000 trumpet by the manufacturer.bloke wrote:The more mediocre the trumpet players, the more odd-looking and the more expensive are their trumpets.
Trumpet players with $20,000 trumpets, as an example, should not be hired to play the 2nd part on Bankelsangerlieder.

Re: Update Update
There is also a corollary to this rule. That is when the trumpet player shows up at the concert with a new trumpet he has just purchsed and in a different key than the trumpet he has been using to rehearse an important trumpet part in the concert. I had a personal experience with this recently and good taste prevented me from slapping the trumpet player in the back of the head.bloke wrote:The more mediocre the trumpet players, the more odd-looking and the more expensive are their trumpets.
