I won a call-in contest on a radio station this morning (one of those "caller number x" things).

Wade, how did you know??
Officially, I won an iPhone 5. But really, I won an Apple Store gift card worth enough to cover the full cost of an iPhone 5 (or whatever else I want). Oh, and they said my name on the radio.

Paul Tanner, trombonist and the last surviving member of that band, died yesterday as well.

This is my 600th post. Peanuts compared to some, but consider yourselves updated.

Re: Update Update
Took the King 1241 to local orchestra couple nights ago. During break the concertmaster came over and said, "I love the sound of that tuba".
First time in a long time that I've read thru full Smetana My Country. Makes me all the sadder to be selling the King.

I don't believe I have ever had a conductor tell me he loves the sound of a tuba I played. Perhaps I'm not getting a "world-class sound." It seems that perhaps you are.Ken Herrick wrote:Took the King 1241 to local orchestra couple nights ago. During break the concertmaster came over and said, "I love the sound of that tuba".

Today I taught myself how to vent a piston valve. Fairly simple process. I also learned how easy it would be to really mess up a valve doing it. That's why we practice on brass tubing first!

Re: Update Update
What do you need the punch for? Everything else makes sense and is what I used (I used a drill press for this) When I think of using a punch I think about taking out all those little pins in all the weapons of the arms room. What do you use the punch for?bloke wrote:1/ soft-tip penbububassboner wrote:Today I taught myself how to vent a piston valve. Fairly simple process. Today is either "I hate being single day" or "I hate being shaken down" day. I much prefer the latter, and my wonderful bride is very non-materialistic. A small bouquet of flowers personally delivered to her workplace on my lunchhour and an inexpensive gift this evening never hurt, though

Re: Update Update
My wife wants new "cute" scrubs for work and will go get them herself, I ordered a new travel coffee mug for myself. Other than that, so long as she gets a card (headed to the store shortly), she will be extremely happy. No card equals a very unhappy wifeMartyNeilan wrote:Today is either "I hate being single day" or "I hate being shaken down" day. Re: Update Update
My wife doesn't like chocolate, but I do... so she buys ME candy on Valentine's Day.
Also, it was 4 years ago today I asked my wife to marry me. A friend of mine once asked "did you double up with Valentine's Day so you wouldn't forget?" My response was, "nope, but that's why I chose a wedding date a week before my birthday." (Kidding!)

While I don't believe for a moment that he's "really" leaving this time...
If you can't handle even the most gentle criticism when you post something that's clearly inaccurate, maybe a career in academia isn't going to be particularly suited to your tastes.
Looking forward to the emergence of "russiantuba2."

No idea. I certainly don't claim to have any insight about all careers. I do think, however, I've got a pretty good grip on the need to evaluate criticism as an educator.KiltieTuba wrote:Oh... I didn't notice that we had a resident professional career adviser on the board![]()
I like watching Canadians cook high-calorie and high-fat foods - is there a job for me?
Maybe some sort of employment as a professional "lookie loo" would be appropriate?
