I will be studying Educational Measurement, and will need to get my PhD to really make sense out of this move (masters degree alone isn't going to be helpful). I didn't exactly set out to become "Dr. Bort," but I do want the career path and salary that will come out of being Dr. Bort. There are also a LOT of job opportunities for me after I get this degree, and that's why we all go to school right? Better future, financial stability, pursue your interests, all that crap.
Funding (or the lack of it) makes the decision a little easier, but my employer also pays a good chunk of money to but I also have to consider the specific programs and how well they match my goals. Only 1 of the 3 acceptances was not funded. Plus all of the logistics like where I would be moving my family, etc.
I know it will be a LOT of work to do this, but I'm amped about it. So much, that I actually just used the word "amped," which I never do.

Sort of -- I'm studying to be a psychometrician, which is about designing and analyzing data from the tests. I am specifically interested in educational assessments, like the standardized tests kids take at the end of the school year.

I suppose you're right. They must have just parked their cars(by the hundreds) and walked somewhere else. I'm still glad not to be one of them. I'm in the comfort of my den, typing on my laptop.
I'm sure there must be hundreds and hundreds of people who are glad they're not in my den. For that matter, I am glad they're not. It sure would be crowded.

Talking about Walmart 'madhouses'.... in December of 2002 I was in Nogales, Mexico on business... but staying on the US side at night. There was/is a Walmart on the US side that was open 24 hours and actually ferried folks back and forth from the Mexico side in buses. THAT was a madhouse!
That bordertown decorated for Christmas was a HOOT!
