I played the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto for my Junior Recital in college. When we played it for Friday afternoon recital class, a couple of weeks before the recital, my accompanist got lost in the second movement and I was all alone. I kept playing until a few measures before the end of it when she finally figured out where we were. She had a good enough poker face that no one knew she was lost--this was a small school where the thought of a tuba playing pretty music was an amazing thing. A few of the faculty members noticed it but we started and finished together and that's really the goal.
