Yes, the head looks great. But is the rest of the instrument polychromatic, so it can be played in any key?jonesmj wrote:OPHICLEIDE in Bb. FRANCE; c. 1870.
Unstamped. Eleven keyed.
Tuning slide bocal.
Zoomorphic bell, probably later, with polychromatic painting.

Nice idea! Tony George only had 10 minutes free to make the previous recording.KiltieTuba wrote:Indeed!nycbone wrote:Neptune,
Thanks for posting the Tony George demo.
Would love to hear/see more!
The two videos seem to be a lot of talking, I'd like to hear more of this instrument, especially if you can find some other "period" instruments to play with.
I think he may be playing the Wessex ophicleide with John Wallace on trumpet for BBC radio on May 26th, but don't know if I can link to that broadcast.
On May 27th he will be playing the ophicleide in John Wallace 65th birthday concert in London at Queen Elizabeth Hall - see http://player.vimeo.com/video/93839276

Re: Wessex Ophicleide (Q for neptune)
I would definitely like to hear it more in a "dry" environment - that room where it was recorded seemed extremely live and made it harder to discern the pure sound of the instrument.Neptune wrote:Nice idea!
