This is tech territory. Unless you are a tech, abandon hope all ye who enter here on this repair, lest you break something and exponentially increase the repairs on slides, valves, caps, etc that will all be warped beyond recognition by trying to squeeze the inner tubes together. Your tech has tools to align without warping that you don't.

Henry... the first thing that comes to mind is what caused the mis-alignment? Messing with the slide might not solve anything. Do yourself a favor and take it to a repairman. Surely there is a music store in your area that has a repairman who can handle the problem. You didn't say what kind of trumpet you have. It might be easier to just replace the slide... IF THAT's the problem.
