Besson 995

Post by mdc2d »

Just wondering what you folks out there that have played this horn think about it. I searched the archives and the only thing I really found out was that it may be a little mouthpiece sensitive. What kind of quality are Besson instruments? Thanks! Matt C.

Besson instruments hardly can be brought unto one single denominator.

I detest the Sovereign euphs for their erratic intonation, their far too light sound, and their dying in the range above the 9th partial and in the low range.

I am not too happy with the 983 Eb tuba because it seems to restrict my playing. Yet it is the main tool of a world level soloist, the playing of whom is beyond discussion.

I am an immense fan of my 981 Eb because it fits the playing style of my unsurpassed YEP641 euph. A few world level tubaists have had the 981 as their main tools. Names like Fletcher and Sykes coming to my mind.

I wanted a BBb fellow matching the 981. It does not exist with a Besson, nor a Yamaha, label on it. The 994 plays like a small euph taken an octave down. Very agile, very restricting.

So the Besson 995 deserves a thorough testing on its own terms.
