Tubing length question

Post by Hank74 »

I am curious as to what would a BBb tuba sound if the tubing doubled in length from 18 feet to 36 feet. I would presume the open tones would be an octave or two lower. Or would it require more air to buzz just to produce the same sound? It would be fun to experiment on this.

Depends on what you used as a mouthpiece and what the bore of the instrument was. Remember; a "French" horn is twice the length of an F alto, yet it plays in the same range. The only difference in that it is playing higher in the overtone series.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
