On the other hand, a man who wrote very similar music for tuba Hoyt S. Curtin was born in Downey (I think that's also the same city where Gene Pokorny was born) and grew up in San Bernardino. Mr. Curtin composed most of the music for Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
Now, don't think I am poking fun at any of this... Cartoon music is very serious! Most of us, who grew up in the early days of TV got our introduction to great symphonic works, courtesy of Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Merrie Melodies gang.
I think it's great that such a great piece of music was selected for this. It ranks above "Blueberry Hill," which predates Fats Domino's recording by 16 years. If I am not mistaken, the first singers to record it were Gene Autry and Harry Babbitt (with Kay Kyser and his orchestra).
