Mpc meets concrete. Ouch!

OK, I should have known better.

While setting up for an outdoor gig last weekend, my favorite mouthpiece fell out of the receiver and hit the concrete. Now the shank is bent at the end, there is a flat spot and several deep scratches on the rim. I’ve sorta fixed the shank, but the flat spot and scratches are problems.

So, can anyone recommend where to send the mpc for refurbishing? I’d prefer someone in Canada (Ontario would be great, Toronto even better), but I would consider mailing it to the right person.

Can I replace it? Not really, it is a seven year old Warburton Arnold Jacobs, no longer in production.

Can Warburton do the refurbishing? I have not asked Terry yet as I’m not sure as to his new plant capacity. Anybody know what the status of the Warburton plant is?

Gee, you say, you should buy a lexan Kellyberg for outdoor gigs. You’re right. I did. It was still my gig bag when old faithful hit the ground. I actually end up using the Kellyberg for the outdoor concert

This particular mouthpeice may be easier to replace than you think. I'd first call Terry to see what he can do.

Otherwiise, this was a fairly popular mouthiece and I'd be surprised if there wasn't more than a few kicking around for sale.

One word: remember that Terry's building burned down last year, and he's just getting back up and running. At the present time, he's not taking tuba orders. But even though he's not taking orders, he is a great guy and will probably try to help you out anyway. Just don't expect it FedEx the next day, and be tactful talking with him about it.

Buy titanium! I recently bought an old Helicon and after tooting it for my friends pregnant wife (the in utero baby apparently liked my playing) we took the horn down to the basement to work on a few small dents and such. Well my friend (non-musician) took the mouthpipe/bit/mouthpiece off the horn and was holding it in his hands and before I could say anything off comes the mouthpiece and it drops 4 ft and lands on the cement floor RIM DOWN (actually bounced!) He didn't realize it was separate pieces in one! There were only very minor scratches and I took a screwdriver shaft and burnished off any roughness. Good as new!

News Flash!

If you've found "THE" mouthpiece, do what I did and squirrel away another one while you can still get them, and they don't cost an outrageous amount to replace (they don't get ANY cheaper than NOW!)
