Website de-bugification

Post by poomshanka »

Peeps...

Please forgive this selfish post, but I was hoping that if any of y'all had a spare moment or two, you might be able to pass your eyes over something for me:

http://www.bigbrass.com/stage

Mouthpieces are pretty well dialed in, and several of the CD/DVD sections. Everything else is mostly "work in progress". This temp site will serve until I have a chance to build out our "for reals" ecommerce big bomber (which will prolly take a couple of solid months). I'll be updating this temp site over the next few days and getting rid of those pesky "coming soon" pages. I'm considering adding some simple PayPal shopping cart functionality, and *maybe* sound clips for the CDs.

Before I keep slogging forward, I wanted to solicit some feedback on functionality, buggy operation, or anything else that comes to mind. Please feel free to either post your responses publicly here, or via PM.

Thanx in advance for your time...

...Dave

It would help if the logos would also link to something. i.e., if I click the "Schilke" logo, it would take me to the same place that the "Schilke" menu item does.

Hi Dave,

On the homepage, you mention you can take order by FAX. I would put the number right there so it is easy to find. Maybe put iot right next to the phone number on the homepage?

Discover card as well?

OK, made some substantial changes. Still need to incorporate shopping cart technology, but we're almost dialed in...

http://www.bigbrass.com

Any additional thoughts?

And just out of curiosity, are you put off these days by websites that don't give you the ability to order directly online, and require you to call, fax or email to place an order? Would you be more likely to pass up a website like this, and instead do some more looking around?

At any rate, this site will be imploded soon enough, but for now, I'm hoping it will serve its purpose.

Thanx in advance for any feedback you can muster...

Follow the (my) First Rule of Retail (not one of the Ferenghi Rules of Acquisition, but it ought to be):

"Make it easy for the customer to give you money"

This means easy, bug-free online shopping that collects the minimum information needed as quickly and easily as possible. Anybody who tries to make me jump through hoops so that I can give them my money does not get my money. Having to make a phone call when I'm already online is just such a hoop.

Good luck with the venture. I look forward to seeing what CDs you'll have available.

One suggestion: You can't have too much descriptive information for the mouthpieces. I would suggest what you currently have in the LOUD section as a model for the other mfrs. sections: whole paragraphs about each mouthpiece.

I know you're probably just using info available from the makers, but if you really want to set yourself apart as a retailer, do the write-ups yourself. Make them consistent, maker to maker. Then maybe have some sort of chart that goes across manufacturers.

What happened to the eyeball? :(
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
