This is a horn that seems to have been passed around a number of times lately. I was the original owner, and James the second. Although not "perfect" (and no tuba is) this is an excellent horn with a much bigger sound than a 186/188. There are a couple of 1290 dogs out there that earned this model number a bad rap but this is not one of them.
Anyone who wants a piston CC tuba in the large 4/4 to 5/4 category should seriously consider this horn. This horn is big enough for any real-world playing scenerio and I have even used in a quintet.
Althought the smaller 2145 I traded this for was slightly more "versatile" I missed the "big tuba sound" that this horn produced and eventually traded back to a comparably sized tuba.

This horn intrigues me. I have been out of touch for a number of years, but in some ways, this looks like the kind of tuba I could use. A couple of questions: How does it compare in size to the 1291? What were the problems evident in the "dogs" Marty refers to? Will it "sing" solos when I need it to?
