Getzen used to be the exclusive inporter of Melton/Meinl-Weston tubas.

I've seen B & M tubas bearing the Getzen name, too! William Meinl/Getzen rotary tubas were pretty common in the 70's. Getzen was also the destributor for the Marzan (B & M and Willson) tubas and euphs.

M-W also made parts for the G50. There's obviously a business relationship there.

I was under the impression that Getzen was the stock version of the customizeable Edwards instruments. Of course, this is mainly trumpets and trombones.

My guess is that when Melton wanted North American distribution, they hooked up with Getzen. Then they find that "Melton" has already been registered by a florist, so they come up with "Meinl-Weston". Since Melton is just selling the horns to Getzen for distribution, they'll put whatever they want on the bell. And since Getzen is doing the distribution, they register the "Meinl-Weston" name. Since it WAS registered by Getzen, the distribution channels ARE a "division of Getzen".

Melton builds the horns, and Meinl-Weston distributes them. And everybodys happy.

All this information has been very interesting indeed !! I had no idea . Getzen has very intersting history and is one of the few American instrument makers left .

8 years ago I bought a very nice late 1950's field bugle made by Getzen . When I emailed them for information about that horn I recieved a package about an inch thick from them . Inside I found photocopies of old flyers,cataloge pages and order forms with the original prices for the bugle and accessories . They also included fingering charts ( it had on rotary and one piston valve ) and practice techniques .That's cutomer service !!!!

Getzen is a great company and that horn was fantastic !!

Used to be more that way. When I mailed Holton back in the 70's regarding a few of their early horns, I got a similar package including build dates and copies of catalog pages.
