Silver Horn Maintenance

Post by Steve Marcus »

How much additional maintenance does a silver tuba or euph require if one does not wear gloves while playing it?

Depends somewhat on your air quality. Cities tend to have more airborne sulfur and your horn will tarnish faster when it's out of the case.

As far as playing goes, wipe your horn down after playing (Windex works pretty well) and you shouldn't have any problems. Or not--and your horn can look slobber- and fingerprint stained just like mine. :)

These horns can tarnish even if NOT used...

That depends...
Yeah, on if you care or not!

I'm with you Chuck, fingerprints and marks from condensation really just add to the horn.

Personally, I couldn't stand playing with gloves "just" to make the horn look nicer.
