availability of Alexander CC's

Post by tubafatness »

I am currently not in the shopping mode right now, but I was wondering about the availibility of older model Alexander CC tubas. Can these tubas be had for around the 5000-6000 dollar range? How many people out there own one? I am specifically interested in the five valve version with the 4R/1L valve setup. If anyone has any answers to these questions, I would appreciate them.

Contact Lee Stofer. He has one in his shop, not sure what he is asking. I believe it is a 5 valve with the fifth in the right hand.

Dillon's has a new one. I think it sells for a little more than you mentioned, but it plays quite well.

I have noticed that a couple of used Alexander 163 tubas go through the Baltimore Brass Company and Dillon's a year (both are excellent shops). $5000 to $6000 seems to be about the going rate for a used Alexander 163. Also, check the new Alexanders and the Alexander 173.

good luck,
