Just wanted to let you all know that I (Andy Larson) beat an army of clarinets, saxophones, and trumpets in the UW-Milwaukee Bands Concerto Competition! I will be performing the Barry McKimm Concerto for Tuba at the Wind Ensemble concert on February 23rd 2007 at 7:30PM. I have posted the date on the Calendar, as well as in the upcoming events section of TubeNet!
It would be great to have some TubeNet-ers in the audience! If you are in the area, please do come and check it out! I promise it will be worth your while!
Also, my Graduate Recital will be 10 days later, on March 5, 2007 also at 7:30PM. On the program will be:
Casterede - Sonatine
Gubaidulina - Lamento
Hayden - Chaconne
Bach - Allemande, Courante from Suite No. 1
Gaathaug - Sonata Concertante for Solo Tuba and Brass Quintet (with Gaudete Brass Quintet, Scott Tegge on Tuba)
www.gaudetebrass.com
I will obviously be the solo tuba on the last piece. Hopefully I can see some TubeNet'ers at that one as well! It is also posted on the Calendar. Please check both events out! They will both be fantastic and I think you will really enjoy yourself!!!!
Thanks in advance!

Nice lineup on your recital too....the concerto competition I won (Strauss Horn No. 1 w/the orch) will be the day before my recital:

Bozza - Concertino
Hindemith - Sonate
Vaughan Williams - Concerto
Mantia - Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms
Wilder - Effie Suite w/double string 4tet arr. by me....
Didn't want to jump on your bandwagon...just FYI....and congrats again!

Gubaidulina
Hey Stefan-- Congrats on your award at the ITEC. My friend Brian and I sat with you for a while in the bar at the hotel. That was the night before you won, and i didn't get a chance to see you after the ceremony.
The Gubaidulina is original for tuba. It is quite similar to one of her bassoon pieces that a bassoonist friend of mine shared with me recently. At times, exactly the same notes, durations, and rhythms. But, Lamento is originally for tuba.
You should get some buddies and make the trip to MKE for the recital! It would be a nice Monday-Tuesday road trip from Minnesota!
Take care Stefan!
