The Suite for Unaccompanied Tuba (by Walter Hartley) was written for the late Rex Conner (1915-95), Professor of Tuba at the University of Kentucky. The recording of him playing it was the state of the art for its time.
Incidentally, for those of you getting ready to do your orals for comps (for your master's degree in tuba), Mr.Conner was the first full-time Professor of Tuba in the United States--he started his position in Kentucky in 1960 (you probably thought they had full-time positions earlier than that!)
