Practicing help

Post by tubatom91 »

I have trouble practicing. Not the trouble of not practicing at all. I seem to loose all control of my mid range like F and D I cannot seem to locate the notes or play them correctly. Like in Tyrell # 2 if you have it. I can't hit the right notes in the Arppegios. I would like to know how to fix/help my little "problem". Please ( I bombed my excercises in a lesson today  )

I had a similar problem playing arpeggios... I found I needed to know the pitch in my head before I could hit the right notes.

I now play all the major and minor arpeggios every day as part of my normal warm up routine.

Usually, you do have to hear the note in your head before you play it. This usually requires that you have the harmonic structure of the piece in mind and where the note fits in the harmony. There is such a thing as "losing your pitch center" in the middle of a piece when that lone brain cell that runs around doing all the work gets too close to the cranial wall and shorts out, and you and your playing end up in a ditch for about the next few measures.

I started with the word "usually" because there is that newfangled modern stuff that only sick, distorted minds can play. This stuff never made any sense to me, but when you look in the dictionary under the word "normal", you see my picture.
