play that country tuba...again

Post by ken k »

I just bought the Vandals CD with the aforementioned tune on it hoping to find some info on the performers but there was none listed in the CD 's book. NO names of performers or anything, just lyrics (which are all pretty funny BTW)
From what I can gather from reviews on Amazon, this group, the Vandals, is not a country group but rather a punk style band who do crazy stuff like this.

I know this topic has been talked about countless times but my search of the old tubenet was unsuccessful.

If anyone has any info on this tune, the group, and the tuba player please enlighten us all.

play that country tuba

the tuba player is Stan Freeze. He once played in a music group on the show He-Haw which is a country-fied SNL show from the 80's for those of you not familiar. Stan Freeze also directed the Disneyland band a while back but now is head of talent booking for the park in California. His son Josh is the drummer in the Vandals as well as Perfect circle. This is how Stan got connected with the Vandals. His other son Jason just finished a tour with Green day where he was a used as a vocalist,bari-sax, and keyboard player I believe. Stan also told me recently that he did the coming soon Queen of the Stone Age album so if you're a fan be sure to pick that up. No solos for Stan, but he did play some fat chords with two bass trombones. Stan's a great guy! Hope this helps.

thanks for the info on Stan. I am familiar with Hee-Haw. My dad was a big fan back in the day. (I must admit I liked the pickin' and grinnin' a bit myself.)
