That little messages typed in tiny font are becoming the medium of choice on this forum for the "parting shot" part of posts, instead of the old standby "internyms"? Is the internym a disappearing vestige of the old BBS?

I, for one, feel that internyms, small fonts, quotation marks, parentheticals, etc. are overused in general, not just on bulletin boards and forums. I routinely have to re-draft and edit items for clarity at work and other places where such idioms do not make sense in the attempted context, do not contribute to the point or emphasis trying to be made, and are just downright distracting.
Too often such idioms are used as shorthanded ways of trying to get a point across that is much better made by proper drafting.
I would heartily recommend The Elements of Style by Strunk and White to all:

TubeNet has, over time, developed it's own style

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Without the asterisks the address was a visible hyperlink. (I forgot about the fact that URLs are underlined and displayed in blue by default, so my WWW addy stuck out like a sore thumb at the bottom of my blank message post! Stupid me!) You will have to cut and paste this for it to work, as I said, without the asterisks! BTW, I could not get Joe's photo link to work, either.jbaylies wrote:And I spent all that time translating...
