Experience with Amati kaiser BBb?

Post by bassax »

I've got an opportunity to buy an Amati kaiser BBb, 4 rotor valves. Probably from the 60's.

I haven't had the chance to try it out yet since the seller is in another town.

Anyone of you have experiece with the model? Anything I should watch out for?

Yes, the Kaiser is a big one:
Height slightly more than 43"
Bell almost 20"

Sure, bass sax is fun, as are all big instruments packed with some power... I was hoping that the Kaiser might have something to offer there too.

Owned a similar one (B&F, Bohland and Fuchs 69 series) for several years. Gradually found out it was a very poor instrument. It was playable only in a very narrow range, BBb to F. The 4/4 equivalent (68 series?) is much better.

Thanks for your input. Somewhat mixed reviews. I'll try it out and let you know what I think about it.

I'm really not looking for a top of the line instrument. Just an affordable step up from my 70's St. Petersburg, the clunky valves are really annoying me now.
