Is Hilgers' F tuba a Melton 46HL?
I saw a similar tuba in the pit at the Bavarian State Opera a few weeks ago (playing Rosenkavalier - a great performance), and didn't recognise it.

Looks like the Fafner BBb and the Hilgers Model F. Most likely not an Eb. I'd be a bit suprised to see him playing on an Eb- that's not a very big part of the tradition in Germany.

Referring to the Melton catalogue, the smaller tuba appears a 45H-S F tuba, while the lack of flair on the bell shows the larger to be a 5/4 197 BBb - both Walter Hilgers models.

The 197 is based on a legendary 1938 tuba - see viewtopic.php?t=16490&highlight=
