UK floods
Many thanks to those who emailed concerning the recent floods here in the UK.
We have been lucky in the Slough/Heathrow area, we are just far enough away from the Thames at Windsor and the closest flood was in Maidenhead about 10 miles away. Oxford was pretty close at around 40 miles so we kept an eye on that one too.
We got off light compared to the Midlands and North of England, but if you see pics on TV of me floating down the Thames in my Cavalry Tuba, you'll know there's been a problem, lol.

Bloke, you are thinking of the past. You can now get virtually every cuisine in the world within the UK.bloke wrote:At first, I misread "UK floods" as "UK foods".

There may be a lot of things wrong over here, but choice and quality of food is not one of them.

Indeed. My experiences with food were very similar to blokes. Here in the Midwest, trout excepted, I really miss good fresh fish and chips. And finally, there is a pub here that imports Bass Ale on tap, (look carefully at the bottle in my avatar) and a grocery store I can get Brooke-Bond PG Tips teabags for a morning cuppa.
And, again, finally, we have an immigrant Indian family that has opened up a real Indian restaurant so I can get proper curry.
Oh, and BTW -- it's spelled ploughman's lunch.
I could go on, but my #1 choice of tubas in my signature says it all. Now, if I can only figure out a way to haul it in my E-type convertible.

Yo
I'm in Norfolk - thats about an hour away by car from Cambridge, we've not had the rainfall they had out west but we were in Uxbridge, West London when the last deluge came down - I've never been to the Indian sub-continent - but from what I've seen on the telly it was just like monsoon season for about an hour. And on Sunday we had a trip out to Hampton Court Palace, the Thames was in very full flow.
On the subject of food - in my town we have
2 Indian take away's
3 Chinese
3 Kebab shops
1 Pizza house
1 Morrocan establishment
3 Fish n Chip shops
and yes - you can get a Sunday roast for £6.95 at one of the pubs
fortunately
we ain't got a McDonalds

I saw them scraping the letters off the local Lotteria hamburger stand (the South Korean chain that has sold some of its Vietnamese outlets to the Thai branch of McDonald's).

If you want to see this place unspoiled (by not having one McDonald's in the country), you'd better come quickly!
