Boston-Munch Symphonie Fantastique

There are two recordings of Symphonie Fantastique by the Boston Symphony with Charles Munch. One is from 1954 and the other is from I believe 1962. Any ideas as to who was playing on these? Also, did Munch use two tubas? It almost sounds like a euph on tuba 1? Thanks in advance!

Munch, as evidenced by the performances available on YouTube, did indeed use a Baritone/Tuba combination. Both perfomances are excellent. Kilton Vinal-Smith was the tubist one both performances, I don't know who the baritone player was. These two recordings are among the best one can own.

Those years the baritone was nearly always played by Josef Orosz, the utility man in the Boston Symphony trombone section, and the long time first trombonist in the Boston Pops. Mr. Orosz may well hold the world record for the most performances of the trombone solo in Ravel's Bolero.
