Harvey Phillips Foundation Scholarships?

Is there money available through the Harvey Phillips Foundation for student scholarships? Googling has not brought up any information on what the foundation supports or if money is available.

Figured someone here would know.

Has anyone benefited from the HP Foundation, monetarily?

This is something I have wanted to know about for a very long time. I hope someone has the answer to this question.

I do not think student scholarships are a current focus of the Harvey Phillips Foundation. In 2004, I was awarded a grant for the historical work I am doing to document the contributions of early tuba and euphonium artists. I do not think there is a formal application process. Mr. Phillips simply informed me that he and the board of directors had awarded me the grant.

I'm curious as well.

I figured there must be a substantial amount of money in the foundation - the TubaChristmas events alone must bring in quite a bit.

I asked here in Tubenet mainly because I haven't received any answers any where else. Thought maybe some of you would have an insight on scholarships or other awards to aid students in their tuba/euphonium endeavors. Or if you yourself have been awarded anything from HPF.

Several years ago I contacted Mr. Phillips about a possible grant for the community music school I teach at in Bellevue; the organization was going through some difficult times and we host our TC event there. As I recall, his response was something to the effect that HPF is a small family-run foundation and that they prefer to use what funds they have as investments in more stable, established organizations.

I seem to remember Mr. Phillips commissioned the Persichetti Serenade and Parable, among many other works.

I worked for Harvey for a year while I was at IU (last year).
I wasn't invovled directly in his Foundation activities but my recollection is that most of the funds that go out are not scholarships (with the exception of the ones for IU students as detailed previously) but rather grants and donations to other programs on a case-by-case basis - for example, there's usually a donation to the IU T.U.B.A (ITEA) Chapter, and some commissioning projects which are in the works.

I could be wrong but I don't think there is any kind of open competition for scholarships.

Again, I never had my hands on the actual figures, but I can tell you that most of the funds that come in from TubaChristmas pay for the expenses associated with its administration - it's become quite a large operation!
