Lee Stofer's New Shop

Post by TubaLatte »

This is a friendly posting in support/amazement of Lee Stofer's New Shop!

This is a facility that will make my Chicago area school music repairmen jealous. Spacious enough to accommodate numerous BAT tuba projects! It was easy to visualize many tubas in various states of repair from the main work area through the second cavernous room to the back buffing room! And above it all is a Horn-Tryout-Loft! Finally, Lee has a facility that compliments the level of quality of his work.

I was able to visit with Lee when I picked up four sousaphones for my middle school program. As I, or any of us, would expect from Lee, the used horns are in amazing playing condition and the price was as good as it could get!

Please check with Lee for all of repair needs! He also has great friend, Kirk, for all of your percussion rebuilding/repairing needs! If you are unable to make the trip to Eastern Iowa, Lee also has plenty of garage space for shipping & receiving—but I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit the master at his workshop!

Respectfully submitted to our tuba/euphonium community,
Jack Kinsella

I had the pleasure to meet Lee for the first time on a beautiful fall afternoon this past October. Schedule your visits for October-Iowa can be wonderful in the fall-just get out before the snow flies !

Seriously, I think some folks might think it's in the middle of nowhere, but Lee is pretty accessible from the interstate. Get some cheap gas while you're there. I also went down the road for a Chik-Fil-A.

Jack-I'm supposing you're still teaching at the same place, are you playing anywhere these days?

I had the pleasure of meeting Lee in mid-september. From the road you would have no idea that it is anything but an old barn. He was just sealing up the floor when I was there. I was waiting for it to get done so he could do some work on my horn. A great guy to meet. Hope to get back that way soon.
