York 4/4 CC 5 valve tuba

Post by markaustinhowle »

This was originally a York Monster Eb with a valve section and tubing from a BBb tuba that I bought through eBay. I think this is going to be a really good tuba. It plays surprisingly (to me) well in tune and it has a great York sound.

It doesn't yet have all the braces in place and I still have to order the tubing for the 5th rotor. The fifth valve is in place and was made by Walter Nirschl.

As you can see from this pic it could (in time) use a new finish as well. I would love to see this tuba with a new satin silver plate from Anderson's.

I am not a professional repairman. All the tools I have used to work on this were purchased at Wal-Mart except for my calipers and I've done the work in my house/garage.
Considering that, I'd say you're doing a darn good job. Keep at it and update frequently! :D
