Replating a mouthpiece
I have a mouthpiece that needs to be replated and I'd like to know where I can get the work done. Any suggestions?

Indeed. When I got my Curry 128D for my 186, on advice of Matt, I liked everything about it except the rim was too wide to suit me; the edge of the rim sat wrong on the curve of my chin and pushed it up above center on my embouchure. So I sent it back to Matt, who handed it to Vladimir, who recontoured the rim to suit me, then replated and repolished it in house and sent back the best mouthpiece I can imagine for me and my playing style on my 186 in a concert band setting. The cost of the plating and turning it around was about half what the mouthpiece cost, which was also reasonable to start with. So, including the base price of the mouthpiece plus the custom work, which ended up being comparable to the cost of some of the really high boutique, but much less than the cost of some of the extreme esoterica, I have a custom tailored mouthpiece that will probably last me the rest of my playing days. Worth every penny of it.

Thanks for that info. I did not know that. I have a mouthpiece I was planning to send to them and knowing this makes it an easier call.Scooby Tuba wrote:Dillon doesn't send their work out. Matt and Vladimir do the work. Dillon also has their own silver and gold plating tanks right there at the shop.Grooving for Heaven wrote:I'm prety sure dillon sends thier work out

No, they don't. I specifically asked Matt that. Dillon plating is done in house.Grooving for Heaven wrote:anderson plating did mine. they will make iot tlook like new too. I'm prety sure dillon sends thier work out, so you might as well avoid the middle man and go directly to the people that are famous for plating.

Replating Experiences
Whoever you decide to have replate your mouthpiece, you should ask _before shipping_ it, how long to expect it to be out of your hands.
