As the head judge for the Mock Band Audition Competition at ITEC 2008, it was my job to pick the repertoire list for the competition. I learned over the holidays that the tuba part for Roger Nixon's "Centennial Overture," part of the taped preliminary round, is nearly impossible to find. In my haste to get a .pdf of the excerpt available to all participating in the Mock Band Audition Competition, I didn't proofread my own work properly, and I have been sending out an excerpt with an incorrect key signature. As a result, very few candidates have the proper excerpt for their recordings.
At this point, the only reasonable course of action is to remove "Centennial Overture" from the list for the taped preliminary round. I regret very much the stress and frustration created by these oversights. My intention from the beginning was to make the tape round as accessible as possible, and to avoid any kind of scavenger hunt for music. Exactly the opposite has happened, based solely on my incorrect assumption that the Nixon was widely available.
I remember all too well how trying it is to make an audition tape. Please accept my apologies for the added inconveniences. This change to the repertoire list is posted at the ITEC 2008 website:

Please pass the word to your studio teachers and anyone interested in participating in the Mock Band Audition at ITEC 2008. I hope to see you in Cincinatti this summer.
Sincerely,
Tom Holtz
