Next time you are in the Lehigh Valley area of eastern PA (speaking of steel towns...) make a point to stop at a Yocco's hot dog emporium. There are about 5 locations now throughout the area. They have great dogs with mustard, onions and their special sauce topping a very well done (wrinkled) dog on a steamed roll (Yocco's was started by Lee ioccoca's father). Indeed, Heaven on earth. Whenever I drive through that area I make a point to stop at their drive thru. Also get the pierogies rather than fries with that.


I also love corn dogs! Fatty meat on a stick coated with fatty corn bread....Yum!

You are right my friend. I live in Central Arkansas and march drum corps in the summer. Everytime we play in Allentown, which is tradition, Yocco's is a must at the top of my list.

That's right it is right across the street form the stadium. i usualy avoid that one that evening but there are others close by!!

I marched '96 and '97. We had talked before about this. I first met you at International Tuba Day in 1999 at Millersville, after watching you perform with 2bas2eu. That performance largely moved me to major in music and to start a Tuba-Euph Quartet when I got to my band in the Army which then led to the first Tuba-Euph Quartet performance ever in Iraq which then led to Merry Tubachristmas Tikrit, Iraq 2003. Unfortunatly, there were no chili dogs.

I had originally started this post with hopes to recived lots of "I love them" and "Me too" responses. I had then planned to change the title to "Who loves men in dresses" or something like that. Unfortunatly, lots of responses made that question largely unappropriate.

Just seen a program on the telly about hot dogs , dont know if many of you good people have heard of a chef called jamie oliver ( lisping telly chef and saviour of healthy eating here in the uk) just as I was scoffing down a hot dog , fried onion and mustard...he mentioned they contained more almost half a pint of salt and is made from 56% of mechanically recovered chicken ( all those who want to know how they remove it and bleach it to make it "Fit" for consumtion put your hands up..)
it should have put me off but having spent the weekend eating BK Burgers ( do they do the 3 pepper double angus burger in the states??) in Butlins in the wonderful resort of Skegness..
still what dont kill you only makes you stronger...respec' to the chili dogs...yum

Not quite a chili dog but......

BACON, CHEESE AND BEER DOG

Ingredients:
1 hot dog
1 slice of thick-cut bacon
1 can of spray cheese
1 can beer (It doesn't matter what kind, but we recommend something dark. Corona probably isn't a good idea)
1 cup flour
Oil for frying

Instructions:
This one is a little work-intensive, so be ready to buckle down. First take the center out of the hot dog with an apple corer, if you have access to one. If not, just cut out the middle with a knife. Fill the cavity with the spray cheese and use the hot dog you removed from the middle as a cap to keep the cheese in. Wrap the bacon around the hot dog and deep-fry for two to four minutes or until bacon is cooked. Dab them dry with a paper towel (so the batter will stick). Mix the beer with the flour until it reaches a thick, but lump-free consistency. Dip the dogs in the batter, coating the dog completely, and deep-fry on high heat for two to three minutes or until brown and deadly.
NOTE: Don't fry them too long or all of the cheese will explode out into the oil. That's very bad.

There's a place up in Los Angeles called Pink's; been in business since the late 1930's. Chili dogs? A couple of samples from their menu:

Huell (Howser) Dog: 2 hot dogs, chili, cheese, mustard, onions in one bun (named after a local TV personality)

THREE DOG NIGHT: 3 hot dogs, wrapped in a giant tortilla, 3 slices of cheese, 3 slices of bacon, chili & onions.

Their chili is their own recipe, their dogs are produced locally by Hoffman Brothers (Hoffy) using their special seasoning blend - all beef in a natural casing.

Actually, Pink's has only been around since 1939. Before I came here to Vietnam, I would eat there many times a month.

People from Tennessee (in the 1970s) know Huell Howser well. He was a reporter on WSM-TV, channel 4, in Nashville.
