Favorite Transcriptions?

Post by joshwirt »

Just thought I'd start a new thread asking those of you out there what your favorite transcriptions to play on tuba or euphonium have been. If you have any ideas for pieces that you think would work nice, feel free to offer them up as well.

I'll get this party started:

Tuba:
Adagio from the Limpid Stream - Shostakovich, arr. Miettunen
Vier Ernste Gesaenge - Brahms
Adagio and Allegro - Schumann

Euphonium:
Air on the G String - J.S. Bach

Playing the Mozart Horn Concertos on euph. Also, the Mozart Bassoon Concerto, but no transcription needed there.

Albinoni "Oboe Concerto in D-Minor." Probably my favorite solo piece to play.

A flute arrangement of "Swingin' Shepherd Blues" lies quite well across a tuba.
"Manamana"
"Yackety Sax"
"O Holy Night" is hauntingly lovely at Christmastime.
We pronounce it Guf Coast
