I need to to find out a safe way to clean sating silver. I suspect that silver polish will do damage. Any thoughts?

All I did was use some Wright's silver cream, you can get it at any grocery store, or wal mart. Followed those directions, and then gave it a bath with soap and water. Then dried off with a towel.
