What an incredible piece! Not so much a concerto as symphony for tuba and orchestra (in the same vain as Berlioz Harold in Italy) . I usually do not go much for solo tuba CD's, listening once and then putting on the shelf, but this one I have listened to three times in three days and enjoyed more each time.
I see the Tuba Concerto was written at about the same time as the Gregson, so wonder why it is much less well known?
Would love to hear a live performance
