I have many three-week periods when I'm unable to play. It's part of the two steps forward, two steps back life of an amateur who maintains other interests and responsibilities. When I return from that sort of a break, I play long tones and warm up thoroughly, and then do what I need to do, and then warm down thoroughly with more long tones. I avoid the middle-of-the-session screech-fest. Mostly, for me, the antidote to having not played is to play.
