West Chester University Openings

Post by Jonathan Fowler »

Hello All:

I've got several openings for Tuba and Euphonium players at WCUPA. We offer both education and performance degrees, as well as a Master's degree with performance concentration. WCUPA has an orchestra that frequently performs large scale romantic works - Bruckner 4, Pictures and Asrael Symphony in the last year - 3 bands, a brass ensemble, tuba/euphonium ensemble and a very large, high quality marching band.
WCUPA is located about 1/2 hours outside of Philadelphia, making frequent trips to the city to hear the Philly Orchestra very easy.

This is my alma mater. I studied with Irv Cohen when I wasn't fending off pterodactyls, but this is a great school with a great music faculty and easy access to Philly, New York, and Baltimore. Couldn't have wished for better!

From the West Chester University Graduate Handbook:
  • A limited number of graduate assistantships are available during the academic year.
  • Students interested in receiving a graduate assistantship should apply to the Office of Graduate Studies no later than April 15.
A word of advice, James (freely given, as always, and genuinely not meant as a put-down but rather an effort to help your chances)...you should probably use proper English when corresponding to a professor about graduate opportunities. Competition for just a very few spots is intense, and "is there any tuba graduate assistantships that go along with this" makes you very easy to bump down on the list.

That said, good luck in your search for a graduate school...don't forget about Kansas!
