Don Hannah, legendary Vegas arranger (Elvis, Sinatra, and the rest) and DAMN good tuba player passed away as a result of a fall this past Saturday. Those of you who may have bought the Las Vegas Brass Bands cd "Vegas Swings" know how good he was at making GREAT arrangements of standards for this medium. I had the good fortune of conducting the band while Don was writing these and was always impressed by his encyclopedic knowledge of music and his amazing ears. Don arranged for everyone from Paul Anka to Zamfir. His tuba playing and bass playing were above reproach and can be heard on countless recordings. I'll crack a beer in memory of him in a bit. He was a good guy.
