New to me St. Pete 201N

Post by lgb&dtuba »

I just bought a used St. Petersburg 201N ser. no. 0623 yesterday at the Tuba Exchange. I'm wondering if anyone on TubeNet sold or traded it in and can tell me a little about it's history?

Orchestra pros look away now. My Amati/Cerveny CBB-681 is there at the Tuba Exchange on consignment if anyone is looking for a fairly inexpensive BBb for community band, etc. I'm the original and only owner of that tuba and can say that it's in pretty good shape and very playable. Intonation is quite good, actually. Rotors are tight and silky smooth.

I bought the St. Pete's on the spur of the moment while picking up the Amati after Mike Morse had done a fine job removing a number of small accumulated dents from 25 years of playing it. The only thing that saved me from wifely wrath was that she was right there with me when I tried the St. Petersburg that had just come in.

Good luck with the new horn!
Hey! This woman plays tuba! :D ;)

Anyway, hope you enjoy your new purchase, and if you need a female tuba to talk to your wife, PM me up haha :D

Congrats on the new tuba! I sold a four-year-old 202N (sn 4150) a couple of months ago. I serviced almost new 202N #666 for a local high school last summer. I have 201N #'s 0051 & 0244 here in the stable now. So... I don't have a clue how the serial numbers run on the St. Pete tubas. I don't thing they are consecutive. Maybe some form of date code.

I think the St. Petes are good players and have not seen any of the problems that seemed to plague the horns a decade or so ago.

I can't speak for all the males on TubeNet. I know that in my case, this strategy would cause even greater difficulty. I would stand a chance of surviving the purchase of the tuba. Consorting with a female, any female, would likely result in my banishment to "THE DOGHOUSE." If anyone needs to be reminded of what, exactly, this is, do a TubeNet search for "doghouse."

They have this CC listed:
Cerveny ACB-681-5
$2,695.00
CC 4/4 5 Rotary

but no BBb listed yet. What price do you think they will list it at? How is the laquer?
Not surprised it's not yet listed. They only received it an hour before closing for New Years.

Lacquer is pretty good. There was some wear over the top bow and against the bell where my forearm went over. That was one of the things I asked to be taken care of when I had it in the shop, but I didn't look very closely after I was distracted by the shiny new tuba.

I can't comment on what they'll list it at, sorry.
